Background

Certification (local requirements, FSC, PEFC…) is for most of the forest managers a big step. A lot of things need to be arranged on Social, Ecological en Organisational level.

Traceability

Very important in the complete certification-process is the traceability of the wood. To make traceability of wood work, all information captured during the process from inventory until shipping, needs to be registered in an information system.

Available systems

The available information systems for traceability:
• Have a high license-price;
• Are inflexible (most of the times made to fit the local laws);
• Need expensive consultants during implementation.

Goal of the project:

Deliver an application that will improve registration of all information and simplify management of all processes, while obtaining compliancy to local laws and several certification labels.

With Woodpecker, the administrative part of certification is easier to implement. This means that the companies using Woodpecker have more time to concentrate on the goal of certification: responsible forest management.

Reef Consult

Reef Consult is a consultancy firm in developing and implementing business processes in small and large organisations. Reef Consult has a strong background in the wood consuming industry and forest management. Please feel free to take a look at www.reefconsult.nl.

Why this project?

The director of Reef Consult (Jan-Henk Reef) was grown up with tropical wood and tropical forests through the company of his family (www.ReefHout.nl).

Jan-Henk Reef thinks he can add value to the management of tropical forests by initiating the creation of Woodpecker. Woodpecker brings certification within reach of smaller forest managers, so they can prove they work according the certification criteria. In this way Woodpecker contributes to the savings of the (tropical) forests.

To bring certification within reach for smaller companies, A light version of Woodpecker will be available for smaller companies. Bigger companies use the full version of Woodpecker.
